“Dana’s IE support group/book club helped me connect with others who share similar experiences, which helped me feel less alone in my journey. The work with Dana and the other women in the group, hearing their stories that resonated so deeply, allowed me to give myself more compassion and grace when thinking about my experiences.”

“I came away already working on some of the principles and feeling challenged to implement all of them into my life as I am ready for them. This is an excellent group and I highly recommend it!”

Pre-workshop: Introduction to Intuitive Eating

Learn the origins of and science behind Intuitive Eating, what the 10 principles are, and begin to explore your own, individual eating patterns and belief systems about food, nutrition, weight, and health that might be keeping you stuck.

Week 1: Principle 1, Reject the Diet Mentality

Did you know you diet mentality may be deeply entrenched even if you’ve never been on a formal “diet.” That’s because diet culture is all around us, has been passed down through generations, and is so normalized it’s hard to see. This week we explore the sneaky ways in which diet culture is showing up in your life and how to reject it.

Week 2: Principle 2, Honor Your Hunger

We explore the different types of hunger, how to differentiate biological hunger from other forms of hunger, steps you can take to start reconnecting with your hunger cues, hunger cue disruptors and what to do about them, and why we need to start with honoring hunger before we can get to feeling fullness.

Week 3: Principle 3, Make Peace with Food

You learn how to start giving yourself unconditional permission to eat (and how this is not the same as eating with abandon). We also discuss how rules and restriction actually reinforce unhelpful patterns of eating rather than prevent them.

Week 4: Principle 4, Challenge the Food Police

We look closely at that inner critic, who can be all too good at making you feel so badly about yourself based on your food decisions. You learn how to challenge, reframe, and create distance between yourself and these unhelpful thoughts and belief systems which serve to reinforce feelings of guilt and shame about your food choices.

Week 5: Principle 5, Discover the Satisfaction Factor

You deserve to have joyful and satisfying eating experiences. We talk about what satisfaction is, how it’s different from fullness, and the 5 steps for regaining more pleasure with eating.

Week 6: Principle 6, Feel Your Fullness

We (finally!) talk about fullness cues! Including the varying degrees to fullness, discovering what comfortable fullness feels like for us individually, and how to bring more awareness to this appetite cue. We also talk about the importance of not creating appetite cue rules!

Week 7: Principle 7, Cope with Your Feelings Using Kindness

We discuss the why of "emotional" eating, when it might feel helpful vs. when it's not, and what to do instead when we recognize that eating as a primary coping mechanism isn't meeting our needs the way we want it to.

Week 8: Principle 8, Respect Your Body

We're talking body image. We discuss how to practice intuitive eating even if you still hold the desire for weight loss or struggle with accepting your current body size. We talk action steps you can take to practice body respect and body acceptance without making body positivity a prerequisite for these practices.

Week 9: Principle 9, Movement—Feel the Difference

We explore the role of movement in building an Intuitive Eating practice. We'll talk about the concept of joyful movement, but also address the question, "what if I don't find movement joyful?" And, we'll talk about how to relate to movement in a way that is different from how diet culture probably taught you and reconsidering what "counts" as movement.

Week 10: Principle 10, Honor Your Health with Gentle Nutrition

Our final session is all about figuring out how to eat in a way that both tastes good & feels good. We talk about the concept of "healthy" eating, the importance of finding language that works for you, how nutritional value of a food does not equate to moral value, and how to use nutrition information in a way that is helpful not harmful.

how do I know if Break Free is for me?

you might be a great fit for Break Free if…

  • You identify as female (cis or trans) or non-binary, and you’re comfortable in a space that centers people impacted by female body ideals.

  • You’re excited to unlearn diet culture, explore intuitive eating, and bring more ease and trust to food, movement, and body.

  • You’re curious — whether you’re brand new to intuitive eating or ready to go deeper.

  • You enjoy connecting and sharing in community conversations.

  • You’re far enough along in eating disorder recovery (with your care team’s support) to fully embrace intuitive eating.

  • You can join most sessions live — we keep this group small to build trust and connection, and sessions aren’t recorded.

this group probably isn’t the right fit if…

  • You identify as male. We know men also struggle with food and body, but the shared experiences here center those most impacted by female body ideals. If you’re looking for Intuitive Eating support, Aaron Flores offers great resources for men.

  • You’re actively pursuing intentional weight loss. We believe in body autonomy, but Intuitive Eating isn’t a weight-loss program and isn’t compatible with that goal. You can still hold the desire for weight change — many participants do — but this space isn’t about pursuing it.

  • You’re in the early stages of eating disorder recovery or currently engaging in significant disordered eating behaviors. In that stage, the most supportive approach is usually working one-on-one with your treatment team before joining a group like this.

Healing our relationship to food is hard because it’s about so much more than knowledge and awareness.

Sure, you know that diets don’t work.

You know that eating a cookie doesn’t make you a bad person.

You know that body dissatisfaction occurs in bodies of all shapes and sizes.

And yet, here you are.

Because knowing differently, doesn’t mean feeling differently.

This group is a space to unpack the GRIEF that comes with letting go of diet culture’s false promises for what could be. So that you can find HOPE for a more peaceful, liberated, and trusting relationship with food and your body. And start to HEAL while being held up by a community who gets it, who gets you, and who believes in a different tomorrow for you, for themselves, and for the generations to come.

“Dana is a terrific facilitator and extremely capable at keeping the group discussion going in a productive manner. Dana creates a safe environment for exploring difficult issues and that is my favorite part of working with her in group situations.”

“Previously, I struggled daily with self-doubt and every meal or snack was a source of anxiety. This group has strengthened my self-trust and I’ve learned things about myself I wouldn’t have realized otherwise. The club gave me accountability, space to process, support from others, and guidance through Dana’s wealth of knowledge and experience. 100% worth it!”

hey! I’m Dana.

I’m a non-diet, weight-inclusive dietitian, and I get to spend my days helping people unlearn diet culture, rebuild trust with their bodies, and feel more at ease with food.

In Break Free, I’m not just your facilitator — I’m right there in the conversation with you, asking questions, sharing tools, and holding space for the messy, joyful, radical work of food and body liberation.

FAQs

  • If you’re ready to stop fighting with food and your body, can’t imagine going on another diet, and want to try a completely different way of eating and living — one that isn’t built on arbitrary or restrictive food rules — you’ll probably feel right at home here.

Break Free is designed for women (including trans women) and non-binary folks who feel comfortable in a space that centers the experiences of people navigating food and body challenges shaped by historically female, societal body ideals.

  • Not at all! People at all stages of their Intuitive Eating journey are welcome to (and do!) join this group. Having folks at different stages of their healing enhances the group dynamic and allows for rich community engagement and support. So, whether you’re brand new or have been practicing Intuitive Eating for years, this group is for anyone looking to deepen their understanding and experience of Intuitive Eating through guided support, structured learning, and meaningful community connection.

  • You’re not alone. Many participants come to this group with years of chasing a smaller version of themselves. They know that diets don’t work and they have reached diet burnout. But, accepting the body that they are in feels out of reach, too. So, while this group doesn’t endorse or encourage the active pursuit of intentional weight loss, it does hold space for the grief that arises from the realization that our body may never be exactly what we want it to be. And, it can help you live your fullest life, free from food rules, despite also holding a desire for a smaller body.

  • It depends. This group is not a fit for folks who are actively engaging in significant dietary restriction, any purging behavior, or very frequent (i.e., multiple episodes per week) binge eating behavior. You’d be better supported by first working with an individual treatment team or eating disorder treatment program.

If you have a history of an eating disorder, but have pursued treatment and your behavior use is currently infrequent (i.e., minimal restriction, no purging, infrequent binge episodes) but continue to struggle with giving yourself permission with different types of foods, food rules, and food guilt, then this may be a great fit. Feel free to reach out if you are unsure.

  • You’ll get:

    • 10 weekly live Zoom calls for connection and coaching

    • 11 educational modules to explore each Intuitive Eating principle

    • Videos, handouts, and additional resources to enhance your learning, understanding, and integration of the principles of Intuitive Eating.

    • Weekly reflection questions and exercises

    • A private group chat for ongoing support between sessions

  • Plan to spend about 3 hours per week program related content. This includes the 60-minute live session, plus additional time for the reading, educational module, and reflection exercises.

  • No, sessions are not recorded. To foster safety and openness in the group, we maintain confidentiality by keeping discussions live only. Participants are asked to commit to attending at least 8 of the 10 sessions to help maintain the integrity of the group experience.

  • Great question. While the Intuitive Eating book is a powerful resource, Break Free brings the principles to life through real-time connection, expert guidance, community support, and interactive learning tools. You won’t just learn the concepts—you’ll begin to embody them with others who get it.

  • All pricing details are listed in the pricing section above. There is a discount for folks who register during the early registration period. Payment plans are also available. You can divide the cost of the program into 3 monthly installments. Contact me for instructions on how to register with a payment plan.

In addition to the program fee, you will also need to purchase the most recent version of the Intuitive Eating book, which is not included in the cost and is required for participation in the group.

  • If you're tired of dieting, crave peace with food, want to explore body acceptance (even if that sounds impossible at this exact moment), and feel ready to engage in this work within a supportive group setting—Break Free may be the right next step.
