Real talk for a minute…

This is not a “learn to love your body in 8-weeks” program because we’re not about making promises we can’t keep and that’s just not going to be reality for the vast majority of folks.

In fact, we don’t even believe that body love needs to be the expectation from this work.

But, this group will help you:

  • turn down the volume on those negative body thoughts,

  • dial back the intensity of the distress you might feel about your body, and

  • start taking steps toward living you fullest life in you’re here and now body.

All while holding space to grieve the loss of the weight loss or body transformation fantasies you’ve imagined for however many years.

Quick Info

Fundamentals of Body Image Healing is an 8-week, closed, support group for folks who want to turn down the volume on their negative body talk without making changing their body a prerequisite to do that.

You’ll learn:

🫶 What body image is and where it comes from.

🫶 About the cultural forces that fuel body discontent, sell you false promises and ineffective solutions, and then make you feel like the failure when those flawed-from-the-start fixes don’t work.

🫶 Tools for how to be kinder and more compassionate with yourself, to engage more with your inner caregiver and less with your inner critic, and to begin re-writing some of those unhelpful narratives you’ve created about your here and now body.

🫶 Skills for coping with those extra challenging body image disruptions.

🫶 What body acceptance is (probably not what you think!) and how to practice it even if you don’t like what you see in the mirror.

🫶 How to take actionable steps toward living in alignment with your values and your fullest life despite having a body that might feel hard.

Week 1: Introduction to Body Image

Learn what body image is, where it comes from, and why shrinking your body isn’t the solution for body dissatisfaction.

Week 2: Weight Science, Weight Stigma, & Weight Related Health Concerns

Learn why weight loss is often elusive and so difficult to maintain, how weight stigma contributes to the erosion of body trust, and why health cannot be reduced down to weight.

Week 3: Exploring Core Beliefs

Learn what core beliefs are, where they come from, how they influence body image, and how we can change them to be more helpful and supportive.

Week 4: Writing Your Body Story

Application week! This week is an integration of all that we’ve discussed to this point, woven together to begin making sense of and telling YOUR body story.

Week 5: Body Grief & Practicing Body Acceptance

Explore body image healing through the lens of the stages of grief, learn what acceptance is and is not, and practice strategies for navigating those intense body thoughts.

Week 6: Cultivating Self-Compassion

Quiet your inner critic with self-compassion - a practice that helps in many areas of life, including body image healing.

Week 7: Values Aligned Living

Learn how connecting with values can support body image healing and how we can use them to inform our actions and behaviors.

Week 8: Bringing It All Together

Application week! Instead of new content we are pulling together all that we’ve covered through the last 7 weeks into one final, impactful, reflection exercise.

How do I know if this group is right for me?

you might be a great fit for Fundamentals of Body Image Healing if…

You identify as female (cis or trans) or non-binary, and you’re comfortable in a space that centers people impacted by female body ideals.

✅ You’ve rejected diet culture but continue to struggle with accepting your here and now body.

✅ You are looking to actively engage in conversations with others around topics pertaining to anti-diet living, diet culture, and healing body image.

✅ You are far enough into eating disorder recovery where behavior use is minimal. Contact us if you have questions!

✅ You can join most (and hopefully all!) sessions live — we keep this group small to build trust and connection, and sessions aren’t recorded. We ask participants to commit to attending at least 6 sessions.

this group probably isn’t the right fit if…

You identify as male. We know men also struggle with body image, but the shared experiences here center those most impacted by female body ideals. If you’re looking for Intuitive Eating support, Aaron Flores offers great resources for men.

You’re actively pursuing intentional weight loss. We believe in body autonomy, however the content of this series is not compatible with the pursuit of intentional weight loss. You can still hold the desire for weight change — many participants do — but this space isn’t about pursuing it.

❌You’re in the early stages of eating disorder recovery or currently engaging in significant disordered eating behaviors. In that stage, the most supportive approach is usually working one-on-one with your treatment team before joining a group like this.

You don’t have time to complete the weekly modules in preparation for the weekly discussions. You’ll need at least 2 hours between sessions to prepare.

👋 Hi! We’re Dana & Haica!

A woman with curly brown hair and a pink blouse sitting at a desk, smiling at the camera, with a lamp and a flower arrangement in the background.

Dana is a registered dietitian, Certified Eating Disorder Specialist & Consultant, and a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor who has been working to help people heal their relationship to food and body for over a decade. She comes to this work with her own challenging history with food and body. Only after she had begun her career as a dietitian did she discover concepts like Health at Every Size®, weight inclusivity, and Intuitive Eating, and learn about the existence and harms of diet culture. This exposure was life changing for her both personally and professionally and paved the way to the work she does today. She’s been lucky to work with and learn from some amazing professionals and clinicians in this space, always being mindful of her own privileges and actively seeking to learn from folks with identities different from her own. She approaches her work with openness, compassion, sensitivity to the lived experiences of others, and an intention to create and hold space for the many emotions that inevitably come up as part of doing this work.

FAQs

  • Fundamentals of Body Image Healing is an 8-week, small-group coaching and support program for folks who want to turn down the volume on negative body talk and build a more peaceful, compassionate relationship with their bodies — without needing to change their body to do so. Each week includes guided education, reflection, and a virtual group session to help you connect, learn, and grow in community.

  • While both are supportive and healing, this group is not a therapy group. It’s educational, reflective, and community-oriented, focused on learning skills and tools for body image healing. If you need individual therapeutic support, this program can complement that work beautifully — but it’s not a substitute for therapy.

  • If you know that diets don’t work, are tired putting your life on hold until you achieve some perceived body ideal or weight goal, and desire a life that’s not so consumed by body shame, you will find you are in good company in this group.

Fundamentals of Body Image Healing is designed for women (including trans women) and non-binary folks, who feel comfortable in a space that centers the experiences of people navigating food and body challenges shaped by historically female, societal body ideals.

  • You’re not alone. Many participants come to this group with years of chasing a smaller version of themselves. They know that diets don’t work and they have reached diet burnout. But, accepting the body that they are in feels out of reach, too. So, while this group doesn’t endorse or encourage the active pursuit of intentional weight loss, it does hold space for the grief that arises from the realization that our body may never be exactly what we want it to be. And, it can help you live your fullest life, free from food rules, despite also holding a desire for a smaller body.

  • Having a totally healed relationship to food is not a pre-requisite for this group.

That said, this group may not be the right fit if you’re currently engaging in significant restriction, purging, frequent binge eating, or other eating disorder behaviors. In this case, more individualized treatment would be more supportive.

But, if you’ve already done some recovery work and your behaviors are minimal, even though you might still be working through challenging food rules and food guilt, this could be a great next step. If you’re not sure where you fall, please reach out — we’re happy to help you figure it out!

  • This isn’t a “learn to love your body in 8 weeks” promise — that’s not realistic for most people. Instead, you can expect to walk away with a deeper understanding of where body image struggles come from, tools to navigate difficult body days with more self-compassion, and a clearer path toward living more fully and authentically in your here-and-now body.

  • Plan to spend about 3-4 hours per week program related content. This includes the 75-minute live session, plus additional time for the educational module, and reflection exercises.

Weekly, virtual group sessions are dependent on active participation by group members. So, please consider if you will have time to commit to the weekly modules before registering.

  • No, sessions are not recorded. To foster safety and openness in the group, we maintain confidentiality by keeping discussions live only. Participants are asked to commit to attending at least 7 of the 8 sessions to help maintain the integrity of the group experience.

  • Yes! Complete this Google form to be added to the waitlist and notified when registrations open for the next round.
